You are currently viewing Podcast Episode 39 Industrial Seed Oils

In this week’s podcast, we take a deep dive into the harmful effects of industrial seed oils. These include canola, soy, rapeseed, crisco, safflower and rice bran. These oils are high in the polyunsaturated omega 6 fat linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is easily oxidized both inside and outside of the body leading to the formation of oxidized linoleic acid metabolites. These include:

    1. Acrolein- the acute toxin found in cigarette smoke
          • Biocide- meaning it’s toxic to all life
    1. HNE- 4-Hydroxynonenal, only produced from omega 6 fats
          • Makes it a good marker to track omega 6 damage
          • Cytotoxic- kills living cells, mutagenic- induces mutations in DNA, genotoxic- destroys DNA. Both genomic and mitochondrial DNA
          • Water soluble- meaning it can leave the cell of origin and travel through body
    1. MDA- Malondialdehyde
          • Cytotoxic- kills living cells, mutagenic- induces mutations in DNA, genotoxic- destroys DNA. Both genomic and mitochondrial DNA

These toxins wreak havoc in our bodies and can contribute to developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, to name a few. To find out more about these harmful byproducts and ways to optimize your diet, check out this week’s podcast.
