In this week’s podcast, we take a deep dive into the harmful effects of industrial seed oils. These include canola, soy, rapeseed, crisco, safflower and rice bran. These oils are high in the polyunsaturated omega 6 fat linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is easily oxidized both inside and outside of the body leading to the formation of oxidized linoleic acid metabolites. These include:
- Acrolein- the acute toxin found in cigarette smoke
- Biocide- meaning it’s toxic to all life
- HNE- 4-Hydroxynonenal, only produced from omega 6 fats
- Makes it a good marker to track omega 6 damage
- Cytotoxic- kills living cells, mutagenic- induces mutations in DNA, genotoxic- destroys DNA. Both genomic and mitochondrial DNA
- Water soluble- meaning it can leave the cell of origin and travel through body
- MDA- Malondialdehyde
