You are currently viewing Podcast Episode 66 How Stress Makes Us Fat

In this week’s podcast, we discuss the effects that excess stress can have on your physique and your health. Topic of the podcast starts at the 12 minute rush.

Stress causes our body to release the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is a catabolic hormone that initiates the release of amino acids, fatty acids and glucose into the blood supply, all with the end goal of supplying the body with quick fuel to help it better handle a stressful situation.

In normal situations, stress and the following cortisol release are nothing to worry about. It’s natural and your body knows how to handle it. However, when this hormone is constantly elevated from a number of stressors, it can cause numerous health effects.

These can range from high blood pressure, increased body fat, increased visceral fat, diabetes and heart disease, to name a few.

To learn more about the harmful effects stress has on our bodies, listen to this week’s podcast.
