You are currently viewing Podcast Episode 123 Healthy Baby Formula Alternatives

In this week’s podcast, we discuss healthy baby formula alternatives. Unfortunately finding pre made healthy baby formula is extremely difficult so the formula we recommend must be created at home. We recommend two options, one is milk based and the other is meat based.

The backbone of the milk based formula is raw milk to simulate breast milk as closely as possible. Finding raw milk may be difficult depending on where you live. All other ingredients can be found online.

The backbone of the meat based formula is broth and liver. These are easily found in any grocery store.

The following is a complete recipe for both formulas.

Milk Based Baby Formula

2 cups of whole fat raw milk, from Pasture-fed cows – This is the backbone of the formula.

¼ cup of home made liquid whey – high quality protein. Get raw milk. Let it sit out for a couple days until it separates into liquids and solids. Drain the liquid and add that to the formula

4 tablespoons of Lactose – mothers milk has more lactose than animal milk, needed for neurological development

¼ teaspoon Bifidobacterium infantis – probiotic, most predominant bacteria found in infants

2 tablespoons of good quality cream (can be pasteurized but NOT ultra pasteurized, or UHT) – provides high quality fats/cholesterol

1 teaspoon of regular cod liver oil – good source of vitamin A, D and omega 3 fats DHA, EPA

¼ teaspoon of high vitamin butter oil (optional)

1 teaspoon of unrefined sunflower oil – mothers milk is high in omega 6 and 9 fats.

1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil

2 teaspoons of coconut oil – needed for Lauric acid

2 teaspoons of Frontier brand nutritional yeast flakes – contains multivitamin, high in B vitamins and protein

2 teaspoons of gelatin – gelatin makes the milk more digestible

1 7/8 cups of filtered water – mother milks has less protein then animal milk so this waters the formula down

¼ teaspoon of acerola powder – high in vitamin C

Meat Based Formula

3 3/4 cups homemade beef or chicken broth

2 ounces organic liver, cut into small pieces

5 tablespoons lactose

1 teaspoon bifodobacterium infantis – most predominant bacteria found in infants

1/4 cup homemade liquid whey

1 tablespoon coconut oil

1 teaspoon regular cod liver oil

1 teaspoon unrefined sunflower oil

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil

1/4 teaspoon acerola powder
